Industry, Trade and Tourism Minister, Francis Kasaila, has said all is set for the 2019 Takulandirani- Malawi International Tourism Expo (Mite) slated for April 25 to 27, with an urge to Malawians to be the first to appreciate what is on offer in the industry.
Kasaila told reporters in Lilongwe on Monday that the number of international buyers and media invited to the event has been significantly cut from 60 last year to 42.
He attributed the development to a rigorous screening process that prioritised international buyers that are promising to bring Malawi significant business from the 150 applications for participation that were received.
Kasaila further indicated that the event was expected to attract over 100 local and regional exhibitors.
“The hosted buyers and media are from 12 leading international and regional tourism generating markets such as United States of America, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Italy, Ghana, United Kingdom, Poland, South Africa, Botswana and Zambia.
“These events have proven to be very essential because local players in the industry have been exposed and are forming linkages with international counterparts, Malawi has been rated highly by the international media as a destination because they were able to come and get first-hand information. We have also seen Malawi attracting a lot more investments in the sector such as hotels, which means that the sector is growing from hosing these events,” Kasaila said.
