Alliance One Tobacco Malawi has donated K1.5 million to Home of Hope Centre in Mchinji for its outreach programme aimed at supporting orphans to attain secondary school education in the district.
The outreach programme has been running annually from 2006 and is reported to have registered success stories.
Alliance One Malawi, corporate affairs manager, Fran Malila made the remarks in Mchinji when the company showed its commitment towards supporting the needy students to attain education in the country.
“As a company, we have always been a strong supporter of education to progressively eliminate child labour,” said Malila.
She said the company’s social responsibility policy on education is aimed at supporting the educational needs of its contracted farmers and their families through school rehabilitation and refurbishment.
In his remarks, Home of Hope founder, Thomson Chipeta hailed Alliance One Tobacco for the timely assistance saying it will go a long way to assist the needy students.
