Carlsberg Malawi, in partnership with Concern Universal, on Thursday launched a transformation project called Tisinthe in Chitowo Village in the area of Senior Chief Kaphuka in Dedza.
With funding from Carlsberg Malawi, Concern Universal is implementing an integrated and holistic project that jointly addresses issues of food security, health, education and environment.
Concern Universal Programme Coordinator for Dedza, Blessings Kambondo, said the project places considerable emphasis on building the capacity of the population to harness an active, empowered community that drives its own development.
He said the project will transform the mindset that communities have on development activities, making them to be at a centre to drive their own development agenda.
Kambondo said they would like to see food secure households, more pupils enrolled and retained in school, easy access to clean water and improved health and wellbeing.
Carlsberg Malawi Marketing Director, Gwynyth Mchiela, said at the beginning of the year, her company received a request to assist due to drought situation that the country was facing.
“It was through this request that we decided that instead of giving directly to people we would rather empower communities to be self-sustaining in whatever they do to have food security throughout the year,” she said.
