CDHIB commits to support health sector
CDH Investment Bank on Wednesday handed over three air conditioners worth K3.5 million to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospitals (QECH) neural surgical theater.
The bank said it takes health issues seriously hence including the sector as one of the priority areas in its corporate social responsibility programmes.
CDH chief executive officer Misheck Esau said when he handed over the support to the hospital.
“The operating theater is very small and the temperatures easily go up. As a bank, we saw the need to donate these air conditioners, to ease the pressure on the medical personal working in the theater,” said Esau.
He further said an operating theater is supposed to be conducive to have positive results.
QECH neural surgeon Patrick Kamalo said the donation is a big improvement to the work done in the theater.
“A theater is a closed place and we do not want air outside to be freely circulating with the air inside the room. This brings a lot of infection,” said Kamalo.
He further said without the air conditioner, the theater room becomes too hot and difficult to work in.
“Sometimes we do long operations and if standing there for a long time operating, one does not work properly. Sometimes people do collapse because of excess heat and these air conditioners will make the environment conducive to the work that we do,” said Kamalo.
