Chartered Institute of Marketing seeking to entrench position

The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) has said it is on course with its plans to strengthen the marketing profession through skills transfer and hosting networking events, among other initiatives.

CIM Malawi publicist, Isabel Kachinjika, confirmed that the CIM board set out plans this year to create various platforms to engage marketers in the journey to explore new opportunities and ways of enhancing the sector’s activities.

“To date, the board has managed to deliver on the promises it laid out in its calendar of events. We held sessions with different organisations across the country, including workshops on key account management.

“The one day refill sessions on key account management were a phenomenal success. We had a good turn out and received numerous commendations from the attendees. Many were of the view that the training will help them to think outside the box,” Kachinjika said.

According to Kachinjika, CIM also held networking sessions in Blantyre and Lilongwe to create a platform for marketers to network in a less formal environment and make new connections.

“As was the case with the training sessions, we also took advantage of the networking events to invite student marketers to interact with veteran marketers for them to learn more about the profession and establish new contacts,” she said.

“As a board, we are passionate about working with student marketers because we believe that the future of the marketing profession is dependent on them having a sound foundation and gaining exposure to real life industry dynamics,” she said.

Kachinjika reiterated her board’s commitment to strengthening the status of the marketing profession in Malawi by equipping both practicing and aspiring marketers with all the necessary skills and support required for them to be of impact at all levels of any organisation, including in the boardroom.

“We remain committed to work with different institutions and individuals to underscore the significant role that Marketers play in driving the agenda in various industries, organisations and the nation at large.”
