Malawians will now be able to apply for new electricity connections online following the installation of a new information management system by the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (Escom).
The online applications for electricity will be made through a web portal that will be accessed through Escom’s website.
All prospective customers who will apply for new connections online will be able to follow the status of their application online.
“They will also be notified of the progress of their application through automated SMS messages and emails,” Escom said in a statement.
Currently, prospective customers apply for new electricity connections in person by visiting Escom’s customer care centres. They also follow up on the status and progress of their applications through the same in-person visits.
Using the new system, Escom customers will also be able to use the web portal to check their bills, power consumption, prepaid tokens and other information.
The web portal is part of a management information system—which Escom is implementing—to facilitate and streamline the flow of information between the corporation’s business functions and improve service delivery.
