One of the country’s commercial banks, FDH Bank, has said it is pleased with how Malawians have embraced its Ufulu Digital Account.

FDH Bank Head of Personal and Business Banking, Kawawa Msapato, said this in Blantyre on Friday when the bank presented K1 million grand prize to Maito Club, which emerged the overall winner of the bank’s Kutcheza Makwacha Promotion.

The promotion saw 34 people walking away with prizes by opening an Ufulu Digital Account and saving a minimum of K20, 000.

“Our digital products are serving a purpose in financial inclusion. We were looking at people that are left out of the financial sector.

“So a club like this one, with 10 members winning, means these platforms are being embraced. It is a product for everyone and not just those based in towns,” Msapato said.

He added that the promotion has shown that saving is indeed beneficial to people.

Maito Club Chairperson, Willard Mawindo, said it is important for clubs to open accounts that would help them save money.

“I am urging other clubs to open accounts such as this one. Saving will help them as a club to plan better. This prize has definitely come at the right time,” he said

The Ufulu Digital Account allows people to open and transact via the mobile phone.
