Local food processing company, Nali Limited, has urged local farmers to consider venturing into pepper farming for maximised profits.
Nali Limited Managing Director, Orpa Khoromana Barlucchi, was speaking on Friday when she toured Namikango Farm in Zomba District.
She said market demand for the commodity is high and the crop is profitable.
“Malawi has fertile soil suitable for pepper cultivation, but we are not fully utilising our land. There are companies making chili and farmers need to capitalise on this to grow the crop which fetches fair prices on the market,” Barlucchi said.
Namikango Farm Manager, Wallace Kazima, called on farmers to support local companies by buying locally made products.
“It is our appeal for Malawians and the government to support the local agribusiness sector. Malawians should be buying locally made products for the growth of our businesses,” Kazima said.
