National Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (Nasme) Export and Import Limited said it has identified K609.2 billion worth markets for piripiri and paprika in France and Spain.

The firm has also identified markets for CG7 groundnuts in South Africa valued at K50 million.

This follows establishment of the company early this year with an aim of mobilising export products among members.

Nasme Export and Import Limited Chairperson, Kettie Chisambi, said the company is expected to supply over 2,000 metric tonnes of paprika to Spain, over 210 metric tonnes of piripiri to France and over 900 metric tonnes of CG7 groundnuts to South Africa.

“We found out that only big companies were able to export products and we decided to come together to empower small scale farmers to seize the opportunities on the export market hence, the initiative,” Chisambi said.

She said the group has experts who will constantly check quality of the products.

Chisambi said there are plans to engage farmer groups for production of specific products to consistently satisfy the markets.

“We know there are issues of quality and consistency in supply. We will engage producers from their farms to ensure the best quality of the products. We anticipate that in the near future, we will start value addition which will also help us realise more from the produces,” Chisambi added.

This is coming at a time the government is putting in place measures aimed at enhancing exportation of locally produced products to narrow the widening trade gaps.
