Local innovation firm, Project Innovation Centre (PIC), has moved to connect local businesses to regional peers to leverage on the international market.

The firm has since opened an office in South Africa to facilitate the import and export between Malawi and that country among small and medium entrepreneurs.

In an interview, PIC Chief Executive Office Kondwani Ngwira said the first consignment of imports was expected to arrive in Malawi in the next two weeks.

He said the centre is consolidating orders for Malawian agriculture produces, especially groundnuts, for manufacturers.

“The aim is to link local small-scale business operators to the manufacturers in South Africa such that they will be able to order at reduced prices and grow businesses. From South Africa, we plan to penetrate Tanzania and China markets.

“We are also discussing deals where we will be supplying products such as groundnuts and they give us machines, in an area of our interest, of an equivalent value to the exports,” Kachamba said.

He said the agreement would be signed on September 25 2021 before the first batch starts off from South Africa.
