FMB gives towards Ecama lake meeting
FMB bank says deliberations at the forthcoming Economics Association of Malawi (Ecama) lakeshore conference could help Malawi achieve sustainable economic growth.
The bank’s head of marketing and corporate social relations Sylvia Nankwenya-Mataka said the theme for this year’s Ecama conference was relevant in supporting efforts to improve the economy.
“The theme of the meeting – Agricultural Transformation and Value Chain Development for Sustainable Economic Growth – is an ideal one at this moment in our country. When we do well in agriculture, we will obviously reap a better economy,” she said.
Mataka was speaking when FMB presented a cheque of K500,000 to Ecama at an event held in Blantyre.
“The forum will bring together economic and finance experts to brainstorm on the betterment of the Malawi economy, hence we felt that we should contribute something towards the cause,” said Nankwenya-Mataka.
Ecama president Henry Kachaje hailed FMB for its contribution, saying the meeting could only be successful with support from all relevant stakeholders.
“We focus on different themes that would add value to the Malawi economy and this year we have decided to dwell on agriculture, which continues to be the back-bone of the country’s economy,” said Kachaje.
