IMAAN—We are geared

One of the country’s internet service providers (ISP), Globe Internet Limited (GIL) has revealed plans to increase its links to internet backbone for both local and international connectivity to ensure full resilience and a backed up service.

This is coming at a time internet users in the country continue to be subjected to poor services from various ISPs which has been attributed to damages on the connectivity infrastructure in Mozambique owing to the Cyclone Idai, the country suffered last year.

In an interview on Thursday, The Company’s Chief Commercial Officer, Elias Imaan, said the company is geared to serve customers in 2020 and beyond by among other things establishing fiber last mile networks in the major cities of Blantyre, Lilongwe, Mzuzu and Zomba.

“This network will serve both corporates and residential customers; we also plan to introduce high speed fiber based internet but this will not have any bearing on our internet charges.

“We will introduce 21st century and beyond services such as cloud services, data center services and support services will be paramount to give our clients seamless services,” Imaan said.

He added that a new billing system with self-care service portal for postpaid customers will be put in place but also multiple payment platforms for prepaid service to ensure convenience of customers such as mobile money and e-payment.

Currently the company has three independent fiber link gateways via Zobue, in Mozambique, Dar es Salaam in Tanzania and Chipata in Zambia for protection, availability and resilience of internet services.

GIL has also deployed metro fiber networks in most parts of the country’s cities connecting streets, major public and private multi dwelling buildings and homes.

The company recently introduced 4G LTE broadband wireless platform in the cities and some selected districts of Mangochi, Machinga and Salima.
