Press Corporation Limited (PCL) Group Chief Executive Officer Matthews Chikaonda says good leadership skills are vital for the development of both organisations and nations.

Chikaonda was speaking in Blantyre on Tuesday during the graduation ceremony of 18 PCL group prospective leaders under the company’s Leadership Development Program.

Citing an example of Singapore, Chikaonda said the Asian country was at par with Malawi in as far as economic development is concerned at independence, but that it is now far ahead because of good leadership.

“We need good leaders at every level either in organisations or in the government. That is why we at PCL, came up with this programme to help us to develop future leaders.

He said good leaders must strive to leave a solid company or institution whenever their time is up.

“But when your company or organisation falls after you leave, then just know you are a bad leader,” said Chikaonda.

The Leadership Development Programme is a PCL’s initiative which started in 2012 with the aim of developing future leaders for the group and its subsidiaries.
