Investment forum kicks off

Post was last updated: October 10, 2016

The second Malawi Investment Forum is underway at the Bingu International Conference Centre in Lilongwe with over 600 international delegates in attendance.

Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Joseph Mwanavekha, is optimistic that local entrepreneurs will strike business partnerships with foreign investors at the forum.

“There are specific deals that are happening as compared to last year. Companies are signing memorandums of understanding. This did not happen last year because last year the time for preparations was very short,” he said.

Mwanavekha further said the meeting will expose the trade and investment opportunities available in Malawi.

“Most of the investors are interested in agriculture, energy and mining. Some of them are also interested in solar and all the seven sectors highlighted in the Malawi development strategy,” he said.

The forum will run from 10 to 11 October and is being held under the theme, Smart Partnerships for Private-sector Led Industrialisation.
