As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, Itel Mobile Malawi has donated assorted items to patients at Likuni Mission Hospital in Lilongwe.

The items included sugar, milk, soaps, butter and bread.

Speaking after presenting the donation to patients at the hospital’s maternity ward, Itel Mobile Malawi Manager, George Wang, said the donation was aimed at giving back to the communities.

He also said the company decided to donate to the hospital as a direct reponse to a request made by the hospital.

“Since last year, we decided to get more involved with the society through some charity works. We have been doing many social events with students, so, we want to do more things for hospitals and orphanages,” he explained.

Wang also disclosed that the company plans to carry out many charitable works starting in 2017 as it expands its footprint in Malawi.

After receiving the donation, Likuni Hospital Supervisor, Sabina Mwamba, hailed the company for the donation describing it as a timely intervention.

Mwamba said patients at the hospital face numerous challenges which need concerted effort to alleviate.

“We appreciate the gesture shown by Itel Mobile and we hope that many companies will come to assist. The hospital has so many problems and we need more assistance from individuals and companies,” Mwamba said.

Likuni Mission Hospital serves an estimated 200,000 people and handles between 150 and 200 births per month.
