Leopard Matches Ltd workers take bonuses-demand strike into second day

Workers at Malawi’s Leopard Matches Limited on Wednesday afternoon continuing their strike despite efforts by the company’s management to end the impasse.
The workers say they will continue to down their tools till the company considers paying them bonuses which they allege the company has not done in the past 7 years.
The strike started on Tuesday, with the workers claiming that the company was not responding to their requests for a bonus.
A representative of the workers, Sifilton Banda, said the strike follows prolonged but fruitless engagement with the company’s management.
However John Mathandaliza, a senior manager of the matches company said talks to bring back striking workers to work were still ongoing.
