Lions Club of Blantyre fundraises for Namikasi Girls Hostel
Lions Club of Blantyre plans to hold a fundraising dinner at Ryalls Hotel in Blantyre on Friday to raise money so as to procure 60 beds for Namikasi Girls Hostel in Lirangwe, Blantyre.
One of the event’s Org anising Committee members, Tarang Makhecha, said a raffle draw with exciting prizes, including assorted items, air tickets, hotel and accommodation at the resorts of Lake Malawi are scheduled to be won.
“We have already built 60 beds, however, there are 120+ girls sleeping on the floor at the moment, Lions Club International have asked us to raise 25 percent of the funds and 75 percent will be sent by them. The hostel is costing about $100,000 and we need to raise $25,000 locally,” he said.
Makhecha said funds realised from such projects will be channelled towards several charitable projects, including construction of a hostel for girls at Namikasi, paying school fees for secondary school learners, diabetes screening, measles campaign and eye cataract.
