Malawi has new World Bank manager

Post was last updated: August 14, 2017

The World Bank has appointed Greg Toulmin as new country manager for Malawi.

Toulmin, a British national, replaces Laura Kullenberg who completed her tour of duty at the end of July 2017.

The bank said on Friday Toulmin will lead a diverse team that is supporting Malawi’s development.

The team will be developing and implementing a Country Partnership Framework (CPF) for the World Bank’s engagement with Malawi for 2018 to 2021.

A statement from the bank said Toulmin will coordinate the bank’s engagement with the government, development partners and other key stakeholders.

The bank said Toulmin brings to Malawi a wealth of development knowledge and expertise with the World Bank since 1984.

It further said the new boss has experience in both developed and developing countries, most recently having served as Country Programme Coordinator for Senegal, Mauritania, Gambia, Guinea Bissau and Cape Verde.

Toulmin said he is excited to work in Malawi.

“I first came to Malawi 37 years ago. I am delighted to have the opportunity to return, and to have the chance to work with government as it leads the country’s growth and development agenda.

“Malawi’s recent progress towards macroeconomic stability opens the way for a renewed focus on transformation and growth, provided that recent progress can be sustained. The World Bank stands ready to continue supporting the country’s efforts to move forward,” Toulmin said.
