Malawi Post Corporation (MPC) has announced the resumption of its coach services, the Post Express, from August 30, 2020 connecting the major cities of Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu.

In a statement, the company’s Deputy Director of Public Relations, Aida Nkolimbo, said the coach service resumes with total adherence to Covid-19 prevention measures governing public transport operations.

“We are fully committed to keep our customers as well as our members of staff safe at all cost, recently we had our buses thoroughly re-assessed for road worthiness by the Department of Road Traffic and Safety Services and we will continue to provide refresher courses to our drivers to ensure safety of passengers.

“We would like to assure the general public that we are taking all the necessary measures to get them across the country, further we are delighted that we will soon roll out the Same Day Delivery Courier Service covering the cities of Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu,” Nkolimbo said.

Since the corporation rolled out the coach service last year two of its busses were involved in accidents a development which prompted the corporation to take the busses off the roads for re-assessment.

After the assessment, resumption of their services met a sluggish start owing to Covid-19 restrictions that were introduced earlier this year.

Last year MPC obtained a K700 million bank loan using its office complex in Blantyre as collateral to buy seven buses from China.

The parastatal launched the bus business in September and were part of MPC’s business plan to expand its revenue base. The parastatal has been in a loss making streak for years.

It is currently operating five out of the seven buses that were initially procured.
