KASUNDA— We are optimistic of 100 percent participation

The Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) has said firms exporting to the European Union (EU), Norway and Switzerland will no longer use form A of the Generalised System of Preferences (GSP) Certificate of Origin.

MCCCI Head of Communications, Millie Kasunda, said the traders will now be required to register under the Registered Exporters System (Rex) to acquire a registration number to use for self-certifying on their exports.

“Exporters are encouraged to complete the online Rex pre-application by following the link Once they have completed the online form, they should print a copy and submit to the Competent Authority (CA), Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) Export Division who will assign them Rex registration number.

“Most of the companies that buy the form from us have already registered online so what they need to do now is visit that link. It will ask them to register and after that registration MRA will provide them a number which they will use to access the platform every time they want to export to these countries,” Kasunda said.

She said the entire transition period will be extended up to June 30 to accommodate those that are yet to get the numbers from MRA.

Kasunda added that the exporters are advised that, when completing the form, they should put MW followed by their Tax Payer Identification Number.

The EU is Malawi’s major export trade partner accounting for 39 percent of Malawi’s total world exports. Malawi’s major exports to the EU are tobacco, sugar, coffee and tea, fruit, vegetables, nuts and cotton.
