MSOKERA — It will help stabilise the economy

The Ministry of Trade has said it is facilitating exportation of all products that the country produces through issuance of certificates for easy entrance into the importing countries.

The ministry has also indicated that it is facilitating importation of strategic materials used for production of various export products apart from the usual Covid-19 strategic imports.

This is coming at a time countries in the region and beyond are slowly easing up on Covid-19 restrictions that in recent months have stifled international trade.

Ministry of Trade spokesperson, Mayeso Msokera, said traders are allowed to export and the government is issuing letters of credence for the products to be allowed passage and entry into the destination country.

“So far we have only been able to issue letters for traditional exports such as tobacco, sugar and macademia nuts. This will help stabilise our economy during this Covid-19 pandemic,” Msokera said.

Nasme Export and Import Limited Chairperson, Kettie Chisambi, said the development is welcome as traders will now be assured of safe passage of products across the borders.

“This is good news because it provides assurance to traders that there products will be accorded entry into the destined markets and cross boarders easily while in transit,” Chisambi said.

This comes against a background of an outcry from traders that their businesses might die from Covid-19 restrictions especially deterring movement of people and goods as countries went into lock downs.
