More investment in skills needed—Firm

Super Sakuwa Steel Limited has called for more investments in vocational skills and small scale businesses if the country is to develop.

The company’s Sales Executive for the Southern Region, Linda Maluwa, said this on the sidelines of the launch a builders and carpenters of association in Blantyre.

The company is supporting local builders and painters to form regional associations.

Maluwa said vocational skills, such as painting and building, could spur economic activities in the country and in the long-run, help in empowering individuals economically.

“The importance of painters and builders to the country’s construction industry can never be over emphasised, that is why as a company, we are supporting these artisans to form associations so that they can easily access loans, apart from speaking with one voice on issues that affect them,” Maluwa said.

She also reiterated her company’s commitment to supply Malawians with good and affordable steel for roofing.

“We appreciate the role quality products can play to the country’s construction sector, so it is our pledge to continue supplying the local market with quality goods,” she said.

On his part, newly elected Chairperson for the Builders Association Southern Region chapter, Richard Banda, said the association will be crucial in ensuring the advancement of the industry in Malawi.

“For a long time, people have been looking down upon us. It is now time that we change this perception and enhance our entrepreneurial skills,” he said.

Over 300 hundred builders and carpenters have registered as new members of the association.
