National Bank of Malawi donates K5 million to Mulanje Hospital

National Bank of Malawi (NBM) on Tuesday donated various medical items to Mulanje District Hospital worth K5 million.

The donation is part of the bank’s corporate social responsibility.

Presenting the donation, National Bank Mulanje Service Centre Manager, Tamara Mtuwa, said shortage of drugs in the country is a barrier to achieving health goals.

She said healthy people are productive, hence the reason National Bank did not hesitate to give back to the Mulanje community.

“We know that as hospitals, your budgets are limited and through this donation, we expect it will allow you to redirect some of your financial resources to other equally important things like food for the patients,” Mtuwa said.

Mulanje District Health Officer, Khuliena Kabwere, said the donation will go a long way as it will help in providing quality health service to the patients.

He said through the donation, NBM is complementing the government’s efforts to provide health services to Malawians.

“We would like to thank National Bank for supporting the community of Mulanje. We will make sure that the equipment will be put to its intended purpose.

“The hospital faces a number of challenges and this donation will help ease some of the pressures that we face,” Kabwere said.

Mulanje district Community Chairperson, Frank Chisesa, urged other companies within the district to follow NBM’s example by giving back to the community.

“We thank you National Bank for your support and because of this donation, I will make sure that Mulanje gives you better business by having more community members opening their savings accounts with your bank,” he said.

He further requested the hospital to care for the equipment to ensure that people’s lives improve for the better.
