Mlambe Mission Hospital in Blantyre now has new beds in its theatre room – thanks to one resident from the area who chose the hospital to benefit from a prize she won in the TNM Ufulu@50 promotion.

The resident, 23 year-old Maria Kasonde, was one of the 50 TNM customers who won K2 million each for a community project of their choice in the promotion which was part of celebrations to mark Malawi’s 50 years of independence.

Kasonde decided to purchase K2 million worth of two theatre beds for Mlambe Hospital which are expected to go a long way in improving services and saving lives at the hospital.

“The life and health of a person can only be developed if hospitals have appropriate resources,” said Kasonde.

She said Mlambe hospital is struggling with funding and equipment despite its strategic importance to communities and the country.

Receiving the donation, Mlambe Hospital board chairperson, Elias Kambalame, thanked Kasonde and TNM for the donation.

“The beds are really special, because they are meant for high dependency patients and they will go a long way helping those that are very sick”

TNM’s Head of Blantyre Region, David Nyirenda, said the handover ceremony demonstrates TNM’s commitment in fulfilling its promises to customers and the community.

“This has been a life changing promotion. It was an opportunity for the people of Malawi to identify and help address some problems in their communities,” said Nyirenda.
