Old Mutual Unit Trusts has donated K3.025 million to the 93rd Brigade of the Malawi Defense Force (MDF) towards its drill contest slated for Zomba today.
Old Mutual Unit Tr usts Managing Director, James Mhura, said his firm donated the money after being approached by MDF.
Mhura said, apart from monetary assistance, Old Mutual Unit Trusts will also equip the soldiers with effective financial management skills.
“As the only unit trust schemes operator in Malawi, we value our clients and we are proud to associate with an institution like the MDF and this event in particular. A drill in military circles is one activity that requires the observance of strict discipline. As Old Mutual Unit Trust, we found this to be relevant to what we do and also encourage our investors to observe.
“We are talking here of financial discipline. We follow a disciplined approach to investment management and our clients have to be disciplined in their savings/investments if they are to achieve their life time financial goals. The MDF will just be reminding us of this important aspect through this competition,” Mhura said.
He said Old Mutual Unit Trusts was also encouraged by MDF’s spirit that MDF has of ensuring the financial well being of its staff, saying that is why his firm committed to provide financial education to the men in uniform relevant to the various groups at different times of their military careers.
MDF 93rd Brigade Commander, Colonel Blaise George Saenda, thanked Old Mutual Unit Trusts for the support.
Saenda said, just like any ordinary citizens, men in uniform need to be equipped with financial management skills for them to effectively contribute to the development of the country.
