Sunbird Tourism Limited last Friday held a ladies-only event dubbed Chitenje Night aimed at promoting the ‘Buy Malawi’ campaign, a government initiative which seeks to promote the use of locally made goods and services.
Sunbird Public Relations Officer, Akossa Mphepo, said since its inception eight years ago, the ladies night has registered many success stories.
“The Chitenje theme was chosen to empower local designers and tailors. We realise the importance of the Buy Malawi Strategy in supporting Malawians businesses and in our case, we wanted local service providers to benefit from this annual event,” she said.
Mphepo then echoed Sunbird’s commitment to continue hosting the event in future.
“As you may recall, a lot of people have tried to emulate the Sunbird ladies night event but they have all fallen off along the way, yet Sunbird Ladies Night has endured. Each and every year people call us to find out when we are going to hold the event,” she said.
