Malawi Stock Exchange-listed hospitality chain, Sunbird has invested about K200 million in watersport equipment for its Nkopola and Livingstonia hotels.

Sunbird Nkopola General Manager, Benedict Mndala, disclosed this in Blantyre on Saturday when the firm showcased the equipment to residents of the commercial capital.

The equipment includes four 10-sitter speed boats, four jet skies, banana boats, screamers and many others.

Mndala said the watersport equipment would greatly improve tourism in the country.

He said tourism is not only about eating and lodging, it is also about having fun.

“Often times, many people are busy working during the week in our cities. We want to give them an opportunity to relax and enjoy water sport with their families during free time.

“We are targeting both local and international tourists with the watersport equipment,” he said.

Mndala said they have put in place reasonable prices to ensure that ordinary Malawians enjoy the sports.

“We want everyone to enjoy using the equipment,” he said.

Melvin Kabaghe, a resident of Blantyre, hailed Sunbird for introducing watersports to the lakeshore resorts.

Kabaghe said the watersports would keep customers busy throughout their stay at the resorts.
