Teveta challenges technical colleges | The Times Group

The Technical Entrepreneurial and Vocational Education Training Authority (Teveta) has challenged technical schools in the country to provide quality and relevant education to Malawians.

Teveta Service Centre Manager for the South, Elliot Mulanje, was speaking when 37 students graduated with certificate in various disciplines at the Stephanos Vocational Training Centre in Blantyre.

Mulanje said it is encouraging to note that Malawians now appreciate the need to equip the youth with technical skills as one way of tackling unemployment in the country.

He was, however, quick to point out the need to ensure that the training given is of top quality and relevant to industry needs.

Mulanje hailed Stephanos for contributing to national development through the provision of quality technical and vocational education.

“Stephanos Vocational Training Centre is continuing to make great contribution towards the provision of quality technical education in the country and can only be encouraged to continue doing this good work,” Mulanje said.

He appealed to the graduates to establish their own businesses and create employment for others rather than just waiting to be employed.

Stephanos Vocational Training Centre Board Chairman, Lemson Namondwe, disclosed that the centre intends to start issuing diplomas in the near future.

He pledged his college’s commitment to continue providing quality training to Malawians.
