TNM winner completes teacher’s house project

A 16-year-old student Nicolay Luhana who won K2 million in the TNM Ufulu @ 50 Promotion has donated her prize money to Makulande Primary School in Mzimba for the completion of a teacher’s house project.

The completion of the house partly solves a housing problem at the school which had six houses only.

“I did my primary school education at this school. Teachers refuse to come here because of housing problems. So, I thought of donating the money to finish the new house so that one teacher may come to this school,” said Luhana, who has just sat for the Junior Certificate of Education examinations at Munjili Community Day Secondary School.

Head teacher for the school Hillen Jeka said since the school was established in 1953, it has had a critical shortage of teachers as they shun it because of the housing challenge.

“There are six teachers because there are six houses. Teachers refuse to rent a house in the community. I will move into this new house and create room for one more teacher. We thank the girl for doing the finishing of the house,” said Jeka.

TNM’s Head of Northern Region Richard Kwatiwani said the company was satisfied with the projects that were handed over so far because they were spread across all social fabrics of the society.
