Total Malawi on Thursday presented excellence awards to 21 Malawi Polytechnic students.

Total has for the past 48 years been giving out the excellence awards to encourage Malawi Polytechnic students work extra hard in their studies.

Each brainy student received K385,000 and a certificate.

Total Managing Director, Aegidia Schnepp, said the company’s interest is making sure that students are able to attain higher quality education.

“We partnered the Malawi Polytechnic some 48 years ago and through the awards our aim is to assist the students in paying for their tuition fees and enable them concentrate in their studies.

“As Total, we also get trainee managers from Polytechnic, so our partnership with the institution is very cordial and fruitful,” she said.

Malawi Polytechnic Principal, Professor Grant Kululanga, said the awards, which are merit in nature, are a way of promoting hardworking culture among the students.

He said the students will be motivated to contribute to the socio-economic well-being of the country.

Kululanga urged other organisations to emulate what Total is doing in developing human capital in the country.

One of the awardees, Blessings Nyoni, said recognition will motivate him to work extra hard.

“We need to secure what we already have but we cannot progress with an Exchange Control Act that is older than our democracy,” said Mutharika.
