Key Business Points
- Antchito workforce management app now available to iPhone users, expanding digital tools for small businesses.
- Digital record keeping helps prevent payment disputes and protects employers from false claims.
- Local tech expansion supports Malawi’s growing digital economy and modern employment practices.
Blantyre-based technology firm Virtual Tech has broadened access to its workforce management application Antchito by launching it on Apple’s iOS platform, months after its initial rollout on Android. The expansion is part of a growing push to digitize employment records and protect both businesses and employees from misunderstandings.
Designed with local businesses in mind, Antchito allows employers to manage casual and domestic workers more efficiently. The platform keeps a digital record of payments, leave balances, and key documents such as contracts and identity cards. Users can record transactions made via mobile money, bank transfers, or manual uploads, creating a reliable audit trail that serves as proof in case of disputes.
Blena Chisenga, managing consultant at Virtual Tech, described Antchito as a "digital witness." He said the app ensures transparency and builds trust between employers and workers. Its features include automated tracking of gratuity and pension contributions at the end of employment, helping businesses stay compliant with evolving labour standards.
For many Malawians running small enterprises, managing workers informally has long been a risk. Bertha Manda, a Blantyre resident, shared how poor documentation once left her exposed to false claims from a former employee. With Antchito, she said, such situations can be avoided through clear, time-stamped digital proof.
The expansion to iPhone users means more high-income professionals and business owners can digitize their payroll and compliance systems without needing external accountants. By being available on both Google Play Store and Apple App Store, Antchito expands choice for employers across Malawi.
This local innovation reflects a broader shift towards technology-driven solutions in workforce management—particularly important in an economy where small businesses form the backbone. Employers now have access to tools that were once only available to large corporations, giving them more control and legal protection at their fingertips. For entrepreneurs seeking to modernize operations, adopting digital systems like Antchito can improve efficiency while reducing risks tied to manual record-keeping.
