Malawi Airlines has launched a direct flight between Lilongwe and Entebbe in Uganda, marking a significant expansion driven by a post-Covid-19 business boom. The new route is expected to improve connectivity and facilitate trade between the two countries, with four flights per week. According to Malawi Airlines chief executive officer Solomon Bekele Debay, the non-stop flight will add to the airline’s existing routes to Nairobi and Dar-es-Salaam in East Africa, strengthening regional connectivity and trade facilitation.

The expansion is a result of improved business and profitability, with impressive bookings indicating promising business potential. Malawi Airlines head of commercial Charles Ng’ambi noted that the arrangement could be revised upward depending on patronage, saying "we will start with four flights a week, but we could review and increase if we see that the traffic is increasing." This flexibility will allow the airline to respond to market demand and adjust its services accordingly.

Malawi Airlines currently operates direct flights to several destinations in East and Southern Africa, including Nairobi, Dar-es-Salaam, Lusaka, Harare, and Johannesburg. The airline’s strategic partnership with Ethiopian Airlines, which holds a 49 percent stake, has likely contributed to its growth and expansion.
