  • Natural ingredients: The drink is made with simple, natural ingredients — tea, sugar, purified water, ginger, and a SCOBY culture — without artificial additives, offering a healthier alternative for consumers.
  • Market opportunity: The launch of Kambucha Kizomba Ginger presents a new market opportunity for health-conscious consumers in Malawi, with potential for further expansion in the natural beverage industry.

Hethi Beverages Ltd has introduced a new naturally fermented herbal drink, Kambucha Kizomba Ginger, giving Malawians a fresh, locally made alternative in the growing health-drink market. Produced in Njewa, Lilongwe, the drink is a kombucha made through traditional fermentation and contains live probiotic cultures. The company says the beverage is naturally carbonated and made with real ginger, offering a refreshing option for consumers looking for healthier drinks.

According to Hethi Beverages Ltd Director Rakesh Kumar Reddy Desai, the company wanted to introduce a kombucha that is properly fermented and locally produced. "We wanted to give Malawians a kombucha that is truly natural and not rushed or over-processed," he said. "This drink is carefully made here in Njewa to ensure it is refreshing, energising, and rich in probiotics." Desai added that local production allows the company to maintain high quality standards while supporting local businesses and employment, which is mphamvu za chimanga (a strength of the grain) for the local economy.

The drink is best served chilled and is expected to appeal to health-conscious consumers. Hethi Beverages Ltd says the launch of Kambucha Kizomba Ginger is part of its wider plan to expand Malawi’s natural beverage industry, with more products expected in the future. This development presents a new market opportunity for entrepreneurs and businesses in Malawi to kugulitsa masamba (to sell their goods) and capitalize on the growing demand for natural and healthy beverages. As the company continues to innovate and produce high-quality products, it is likely to kukhazikitsa (to flourish) in the market, providing a tsogolo lachilengedwe (a bright future) for Malawi’s business sector.
